Fun Western Destinations

The American West is a daunting prospect for outdoor enthusiasts because there are so many places to see and experience. With options stretching all the way from north to south, I can totally understand the overwhelming feelings that settle in when trying to decide on where to start. Check out these fun western destinations from Salt Lake City to Albuquerque and you’ll get off to a nice start in this wonderful part of the country.

Salt Lake City, Utah

Many people come to Salt Lake City to experience Utah’s biggest city that’s teeming with outdoor fun. Big Cottonwood Canyon is a huge draw for skiers but also for hiking and other fun. City Creek Canyon is another great hiking spot and not far from Downtown. The Hogle Zoo will keep families busy while checking out animals from all over the world. Pony Express National Historic Trail is farther out but definitely worth a stop for travelers who’d like to step back in time.

Sedona, Arizona

Sedona is a great Arizona destination that’s not far from Flagstaff and full of outdoor fun. Red Rock State Park and its scenic byway draws cars and bikers galore to experience the beautiful scenes on hand here. Cathedral Rock is a nice climb for visitors while Oak Creek Canyon is a longer hike that’s packed with gorgeous views. Be sure to explore Sedona’s thriving arts scene at Exposures International Gallery of Fine Art or Son Silver West Gallery.

Page, Arizona

This northern Arizona border town has so much natural beauty that it’d be hard to avoid when staying in Page. Horseshoe Bend is the most popular spot for a walk and for wonderful sunset pictures. Antelope Canyon and Antelope Lower Canyon are unavoidable for Page visitors and another reminder to sharpen those photography skills before arriving. There are so many more options in the Page area but these will get you in the front door!

Glenwood Springs, Colorado

Glenwood Springs was once known as Defiance but is now one of the most interesting small towns in America, thanks to a wonderful arts community and fun things to do in and around town! Hanging Lake has a very popular round-trip trail full of waterfalls and other sights along the way. Families and friends will certainly enjoy Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, thanks to a great variety of rides and more fun inside.

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Head to New Mexico’s largest city and you’ll see the fun that outdoor enthusiasts are finding in and around Albuquerque. Spend an afternoon on U.S. Route 66 for one of the country’s most picturesque drives, or the fitter visitor can hike the famed La Luz Trail for more gorgeous views. Albuquerque City Park is a great spot to visit throughout the year, but the October Balloon Fiesta brings in tons of people for a beautiful spectacle.

Now that you have these fun western destinations planned and ready to go, it’s time to start booking flights and picking out your best outfits for the trip! Enjoy these wonderful stops in America’s West and let us know what you loved most out of them all.
