Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia attracts many different types of travelers these days. Like many other huge cities, this one has tons of options for those passing through or choosing to stay for a few days. When riding in from the airport or driving around, one sight jumps out and sticks. The Petronas Twin Towers always seem nearby and so bright when seen at nighttime. I can’t recall the first time my eyes met with them but one memory does persist. Here’s how it goes.

This Kuala Lumpur travel guide is part of our series on Malaysia Travel and Southeast Asia Travel. It was originally created on November 7, 2014. It has been maintained and updated (as of December 27, 2018) to reflect current viewpoints and travel trends.

After spending some time in Bukit Bintang sampling as much food as possible, my wife and I return to our hotel near Times Square allow to relax and take a breather from the KL heat. Before swiping my card to unlock the room door, I can see them sitting right outside the hallway window. They’re far enough away to fit perfectly on anyone’s wall within a nice frame. A perfect conversation starter they’d be, but this is no picture. It’s the actual skyline with those two beautiful towers nestled above.

Our visit to the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) and the Petronas Towers comes on a muggy night at the end of Malaysia’s rainy season, no different from the others during this week. It is certainly a doable walk from our hotel and much better than battling the daytime heat. I can remember talking to my wife when the Towers came into view while walking towards them.

There they are! Ah! Where’d they go?

Occasionally other buildings block their view, playing a bit of peekaboo with me until we clear all obstructions. The Towers are a famous spot for pictures and the crowds standing below are a clear indication. For a while, everyone there goes away and it’s just me, my wife, and the Towers. Those beautiful buildings are ours for this tiny moment. Lights emanate and engulf surrounding areas while above, a mixture of crimson and black paint the perfect background to these architectural masterpieces.

This is a perfect night for staring at the Petronas Towers and a perfect start to a great week in Malaysia. Nothing else could top this moment. I wondered whether or not this was some sort of dream but no, it was real.

What do you think? Do they look real or not? Let me know what you think in the comments section!

I love the last picture and the way it opens up to expand. Absolutely breathtaking. If it’s this beautiful in a photograph, the real thing must blow you away.

It certainly does and did, Lenie. I loved those towers and hopefully will get to see them again. KL is a great hub for traveling Asia so that might be a possibility:) Thanks for stopping by.

Stunning! Wow! It’s hard to believe that something of this size and magnitude could play hide and seek! The black and white (last) is my favorite. Beautiful!!
