The Han River means so much to this country historically, economically, universally. Inquiring into Korea’s postwar boom will lead to the Han with “miracle” attached to its hip.
Not only does that Han River dominate Korea’s more functional uses, a walk along this most important waterway exposes some beautiful views and scenes.
Seoul is such a hotbed of hustle and bustle but witnessing Han River Sunsets remind me that things can actually slow down in this mega-city.
Catching Han River Sunsets in Seoul
We descend towards the river on a cool fall day that’s not too hot nor cool. A perfect breeze greets us as bike paths and workout stations line the river-walk. Having access to such a place really makes the prospect of living in Seoul into a more real thing.
That calming breeze constantly rushes by to resemble the only business happening in this sanctuary of calm.
The walk comes upon a grim reminder and dictates our final destination. As the sun sets along the Han River, we’re walking to Mapo Bridge. It’s a place where the Han sometimes takes back in contrast to its normally giving nature.
Directions to the Han River
Just so you know, there are many ways to reach the Han River. We accessed the river by walking about 20 minutes from Hapjeong Station which is accessible from Lines 2 and 6.
Here are some more places with waking distances included, thanks to Korea Tourism.
- Ttukseom district: Exit #2 or 3 of Ttukseom Resort station (Seoul Subway Line 7).
- Gwangnaru district: From exit #1 of Cheonho station (Seoul Subway Line 5 & 8), walk 20 min.
- Yeouido District: Exit #2 or 3 of Yeouinaru station (Seoul Subway Line 5).
- Yanghwa district: From exit #4 of Dangsan station (Seoul Subway Line 2), walk 10 min.

Beautiful! I have to get there. I have been meaning to bike along the Han…hopefully before the cold comes in!
It’s a great place to get away from the chaos and just walk around with more space than Seoul normally allows. Rent a bike and ride along it. That’s what I’ll do next time, for sure:)
